TASH Resolution and the Right to Communicate

TASH was founded in 1975 and is an international leader in disability advocacy focusing on

human rights and inclusion for ALL people. The TASH Right to Communicate states that all

people communicate and that the right to communicate is a basic human right and is, in

fact, the means through which all other rights are possible.

To guarantee each person's right to communicate the following goals must be met:

1.  Everyone must have a way to communicate that allows them to participate in the wider world.

2.  All people must be able to chose a way to communicate.

3.  Each person's communication must be accepted by others.

No person should be denied communication because of a disability.  Only through an

effective means of communication can a person enjoy the right of free speech.
